A Guide to The Most Popular Colorbond Colours

You don’t have to be an interior designer to decide on a colour for your new build. This article will be your artistic guidebook to the gorgeous colours of Colorbond, what’s popular, what might work wonderfully with your surroundings, and how to make a decision.

Picking a colour is always fun, but it’s equally frustrating if you’re stuck between two, three, or ten! This blog will make it easier for you to at least narrow things down to your ideal colour scheme and design palette for your dream home.

The Beauty of Colorbond: What Are Some Popular Colours?

Why are Colorbond’s shades so appealing in comparison to copper and steel? They are popular for being the colours of Australia. You can choose from 22 Colorbond steel core colours and 6 in a premium Matt finish.

Monument

Beauty of Colorbond

Monument is a deep, timeless, empowering grey inspired by the dark tones of imposing volcanic rock formations along the South Australian coastline. Strong, confident, and sophisticated, Monument is one of the most accomplished colours in the Colorbond steel palette.

Why would you choose this? It pairs well with crispy whites, rich timbers, and silvered greys. You can create a bold statement for walling, roofing, gutters, and garage doors. Dramatic and modern, it gives depth to your landscaping! Monument is available in Colorbond steel and Ultra Steel.

Subtle but also like a serene forest, Woodland Grey resembles deep inland bush and coastal scrub. It’s a chameleon colour in the Colorbond steel palette!

Why would you pick this? Building materials such as granite, sandstone, and dark timber complement Woodland Grey in any build. It is suitable for both suburban and rural applications, such as country-style homes set amongst eucalypts with gutters, roofing, fascias, sheds and garage doors. The colour is also impactful as a walling for a composite-style property. Available in Colorbond steel and Colorbond Ultra steel.

Evening Haze

Tranquil and subtle, Evening Haze is a reflection of Australian earthy tones found in the landscape, such as dry grasses of inland plains to limestone coastlines.

Why might you choose this colour for your exterior? Calm and balanced, Evening Haze works well with contemporary or composite housing styles in suburban, rural or seaside areas. Roofing, gutters, fascia and garage doors benefit from limewashed timbers, pale textured bricks and muted metallics. Only available in Colorbond steel.

You may prefer Jasper for a mid-century housing style or as a composite-style home as a warming contrast to concrete, blonde timber and feature stonework. Available in Colorbond steel.

A neutral, soft grey, Windspray reflects cool sea mists and summer breeze and is mid-strength in tone.

Why might you consider this colour? Windspray works successfully with materials that are similar, such as grey-weathered timbers or concrete. Connecting with the coastal colour and material palettes as fascias, roofing, walling, or garage doors, Windspray works for both contemporary additions and heritage renovations. Available in Colorbond steel and Colorbond Ultra steel.

What are some finishes and materials?

Materials_Colorbond

Colorbond steel in a Classic finish is designed to weather the Aussie land (under rain, hail, wind, or sunshine!). It offers a low-sheen aesthetic and striking architecture. You can expect durability and longevity in the design.

Colorbond steel in a Matt finish is soft in looks, but it is strong and durable for decades. A Matt finish beautifully diffuses light for a textured designer appearance to elevate the material palette of your property.

Colorbond Steel_Finishes

Colorbond Ultra steel is specifically for building in Australia’s marine and industrial environments. It means you’ll have extra reassurance by giving your property another level of protection. If you’re buying or building a coastal retreat, these colours are your best option.

Colorbond Steel: Why Invest?

It is durable as it has five layers of protection. Colorbond steel can handle Australian weather conditions and provide long-lasting durability you can trust. Colorbond steel is coated in an industry-leading enhanced corrosion-resistant Activate technology, then further improved with a pre-treatment primer and a baked-on topcoat.

Colorbond undergoes corrosion testing, application testing, durability testing, and outdoor exposure testing. The assessment program by BlueScope has over 12,000 panels on exposure across Australia. Recreating building applications (such as pitches, profiles and product types, and unwashed areas) gives a genuine understanding of how Colorbond will perform.

Experience thermal comfort. Colorbond’s core colour range in the Classic and Matt finishes features a specially designed Thermatech solar reflective coating. This reflects more of the sun’s heat on hot sunny days, cutting back your dependence on air conditioning. Thermatech is available in all colours except Night Sky.

Colorbond is sustainable. Eco-friendly, Colorbond supports a “circular economy” as every product is 100% recyclable. This steel, as a resource, can be used for longer, so it has a great environmental impact.

Simple to maintain all year round. All you need to do is wash it with clean water to prolong its life and maintain its aesthetics. “Unwashed” areas by rainwater (such as wall cladding under eaves) should be hosed down every six months.

Colorbond performs well under fire exposure conditions. Roofing, walling, gutters and downpipes made from Colorbond steel meet the compliance standards of AS 3959:2018. If you plan to build in a bushfire-prone area or want to increase the bushfire performance of your home, Colorbond can be part of this solution.

You get a reliable warranty and the support of BlueScope, which is one of Australia’s largest manufacturers. Colorbond steel’s durability is backed by some of the most robust building product warranties for eligible applicants. To apply for and activate your warranty, visit the BlueScope Steel website.

How Do You Choose Colours?

Popular Colorbond Colours

Now that you’re aware of popular Colorbond colours, how do you pick?

  • What kind of style are you going for? Modern homes could suit Monument, Basalt, or Shale Grey, but if you have a property on the coast, a breezy colour like Surfmist or Classic Cream might look best.
  • Are you rural or urban-based? Woodland Grey or Dune might blend nicer with your landscape.
  • Do you get a lot of sunshine where you live? You might want a lighter colour, such as Evening Haze, instead of Monument, as it absorbs less heat.
  • Does the colour go with other exterior elements, such as the wall cladding, gutters, window frames, or downpipes?
  • Order physical sample swatches instead of viewing them online and making a purchase without being certain. Look at the colours in natural lighting.
